WSU Evening for Educators

Join Weber State University for an EVENING FOR EDUCATORS: REFLECTIONS ON EMPATHY IN THE K-12 CLASSROOM on Thursday, March 10 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Shaw Gallery in the Kimball Visual Arts Building (3964 W Campus Dr, Ogden, UT 84408).

In connection with the exhibition, All Together, Amongst Many: Reflections on Empathy, participants will look at how they can foster empathy and understanding through the power of art in the classroom. This in-person event will include a tour of the Shaw Gallery introducing the exhibition. Following the tour, participate in hands-on workshops that show how the arts can shape learning in the classroom. Please note we will open the Shaw gallery at 5:30 pm for a special viewing of the exhibit by E4E participants.

Workshops:

Beyond First Impressions

Presented by Erinne Roundy (WSU)
Using the children’s picture book, Milo Imagines the World, we will explore how “first impressions” impact how we see others but if we take the time to look beyond, we will open ourselves up to better understand and make us more aware of the feelings of others as we imagine what their life might be like.

Cinematic Visual Poetry
Presented by Julie Gale (Utah Film Center)
Do you want to add cinematic elements to your art projects? Utah Film Center’s “Cinematic Visual Poetry” lesson will show you how to stair-step your students into cinematic poetry with visual poems, low-lift cinematic poems, and short cinematic poetry films. You will leave the lesson with a detailed lesson plan, grading rubrics, and a library of resources to make cinematic poetry in your classroom. The stair-step method is also useful if you teach multiple grade levels as you can focus on the simple projects for younger students and the more complex projects for older students.
