Regional Specific Workshops

UAEA sponsored a Raku Firing regional workshop in Moab, Utah on September 28. We had master potters Barb Gregorio and Joanne Savoie demonstrate the process from glazing bisqueware to the raku firing itself. This is part of UAEA’s goal to advocate and provide professional learning activities for teachers all across the state, not just along the Wasatch Front or St. George areas. Christa Jensen and Catherine Moore (Grand County High School) set up this event to bring together teachers in the Southeast Utah area, although teachers all across the state were invited to come and learn; nine participated in the workshop. We were able to learn new artistic processes, build and strengthen friendships, and have a great time!
UAEA’s next smaller workshop will be on November 2 at Alta High School. Katie Campbell, who is a member of the College Board professional development committee for AP Studio Art, is going to share ideas about how to navigate the new AP curriculum. With the new AP Art redesign, UAEA wanted to offer professional learning and networking opportunities for teachers in this area. If you have an idea of another workshop idea for your content area or region, please reach out to us at uaeapresident@gmail.com.
